Applying to the UK
on: April 01, 2009, 10:36:57 AM
I have a question about a coursein Birmingham Conservatoire:
It's called Bmus(Hons). It's about becoming a "preforming teacher".

Has anyone here done that course, and possibly could tell me about it?

I've not done it at Birmingham, but I'm finishing my BMus(hons) in Glasgow.

My course focussed a lot on performance, but there were elements of teaching involved, with a teaching assessment at the end of 3rd year.

You'd really need to look at the website/prospectus for the best information, or email someone there because each conservatoire is different. Glasgow University does the course, and I'm at the RSAMD, and they're both completely different.

You are lucky to be at Glasgow. They have one of the best Libraries in the Country.

You mean the mitchell library? that library is awesome, it's huge. they also let us use their facilities for concerts/performance classes/masterclasses and we keep the fortepianos there and a couple of modern pianos.

It sure is and the special collections dept is full of goodies. There was a nice lady there that copied a heap of scores for me at a very reasonable price.

To save Alistair the trouble of mentioning it, you are ideally placed to attend the Concert by Kevin Bowyer on Sunday June 7th,  where i understand he will be playing the Sorabji 2nd organ symphony. The concert is from 13:30 to 21:45 so you will have over 8 hours of enjoyment.

However, you could go out and get pissed, have a curry, go back to your rooms, have a shower, a bite to eat, ring your friends, go on facebook, get changed and Mr Boywer will still be playing.

I'm told that this will take place in the University Memorial Chapel; is that in Malborough Street?

Your suggestions for alternative ways in which to spend that afternoon are such that most people would probably rather go to the performance, but it takes all sorts, I suppose...

Best,
