Any violinists here in the forum???
on: April 19, 2009, 11:06:41 PM
I would like to begin a thread just for violinists.  I know this is a piano forum, but there are some members that do play violin.  And I would like to talk about violin here.  I have played violin for 8 years.  I own a beautiful handcrafted violin which is a Guarneri model.  My violin maker lives in my home town and I have visited his home where he makes his violins.   To me the violin is a wonderful instrument.  I never thought it would be that easy for me to learn to play it, although it required hours of daily practice and determination.  I also, do arrangements for violin in which I hope to get published one day.  Anyhow, hope to meet some of you that play violin.    :)

best wishes,

go12_3

I've been playing for almost 11 years, for my own amusement.

I don't practice every day though... I'm naturally a pianist. :)

I've learned many of the Kreutzer etudes and a few other simpler pieces... That's all my repertoire consists of at the moment! I would like to play Bach eventually. Practicing the violin takes quite a lot of energy and mental straining from me which I can't afford if I want to practice the piano as much as I do every day...

I have a friend that's horribly talented with the violin, and she insists of my practicing more. I can't bring myself to practice more than 30 minutes though!

I wish I could have more time to practice piano and violin, so I do some of both almost everyday.  But with life being so busy at times, I have to do one or the other instrument.  I know what you mean, anne, about practicing violin takes a lot of energy.  If I am tired, it's harder to focus and yet, I love the sound that it produces.  I just play the slow pieces, like waltzes and adagios from sonatas by Handel.  Bach is hard though, but I learned to play through the Concerto No. 1 and a couple of movements in Concerto for Two Violins(for violin 1 and violin 2 parts).  Bach is quite technical for the violinist....a challenge.  Do you know any Dancla?  I learned the 6  Airs Varies from the first series.  Also,  I learned Vivaldi's Concerto in A minor----such a wonderful piece to play!  Anyhow,  nice to *meet *
you anne, and Karli---glad to know you played violin too.   :)

best wishes,

Well, I spotted Leonidas Kavakos buying an energy bar at an airport about twelve hours after he played beautifully the Berg Violin Concerto. I greeted him with my appreciation for the concert, and he was very gracious.

I've only ever strummed other people's violins, (the opening of Shostakovich's Viola Sonata, a fifth high! 8) ) and have never even held a bow, but I appreciate the instrument and what Bach, Beethoven and Bartok have done for it.   :)

There's a user by the name of violinist on here.  I believe he got accepted into the YouTube Symphony.

Anyways, the closest I have yet come to playing a violin is an Erhu.  It's a Chinese two stringed instrument played with a bow.
Made a Liszt. Need new Handel's for Soler panel & Alkan foil. Will Faure Stein on the way to pick up Mendels' sohn. Josquin get Wolfgangs Schu with Clara. Gone Chopin, I'll be Bach

In that category yes. But considering that my username, if it were constructed after the same principle as yours, would be pianoboy64... ;D

Oh yes, relating to the topic, I am also a violinist. One of my goals is to be involved with an orchestra in a few years.

Oh, wait...If you're thinking my birth year is 88, then you're wrong. My actual birth year is 93. 88 is for the amount of keys on a piano.  ::) And 64...you're as old (or should I say young?) as my mother. lol

I used to play violin. I was pretty poor at it - much better at piano. However, I got paid violin-playing work many years before I earned a penny from the piano! I can still just about get a tune out of a fiddle, especially one of the folk tunes we used to play in the barn-dance band I was in.
Instrumentalists are all wannabe singers. Discuss.

I didn't know that! A violinist's background can be found in all manner of interesting places, though; Jonathan Powell was once a violinist, as was the soprano Sarah Leonard. Going back a little farther, Michelangeli was a violinist in his youth, as was the soprano Blanche Marchesi - and going back farther still, Alkan was also a violinist...
