Video: EMTA Winner's Recital 3-15-09
on: May 03, 2009, 08:08:40 AM
Please excuse my mistakes, the building was not heated, I had to sit around for an hour in the audience before I got to play, and I didn't get to warm up (it was about 28*F out that day).  Also, apologies for the poor audio.  The hall had lots of reverb and echo, so it sounds as though my articulation is sloppy, the fact that i was using a hand held video camera doesn't help either haha.

I am a freshman studying to obtain a BM in Piano Performance.  Feel free to offer constructive criticism.  I won't hold anything against you.  Having only been playing for 5 years (Ages 10-12, stopping for 4 years, then picking it back up again when I was 16) and studying music at a University, I have become very well aware of my deficiencies.

I won 2nd place, if that matters to anyone. Enjoy!

Partita No. 2 in C Minor - Sinfonia, JS Bach

Moment Musical No. 4 in E Minor - Presto, Rachmaninov

i was listening to the musical moment
and maybe its the acoustics of the hall or its the piano, but the left hand sounds awfully bold and significantly louder than the right hand. technique-wise it seems you have it fairly under control. However, musically it still needs work, and.....whats the word....character, i think is what i'm looking for.
good job. something i hope to play one of these days.

It must be the acoustics of the hall.  From where I was sitting, the bass sounded very weak and thuddy, but again, a lack of being able to test out the piano beforehand meant I had to adjust on the fly.  As far as character goes, I know what you mean.  Again, the acoustics of that hall were not particularly good and neither is the microphone on the camera, so a lot of things I did to bring out the character of the piece didn't come out as well as I would have liked.

However, it is something I can learn from.  I don't have much performing experience, so I'm still learning how to adjust my playing to adapt to different halls and pianos.

Back to practicing haha!
