What Should i play next
on: May 05, 2009, 10:14:36 PM
Ok so I have just finished up a few new songs and I cant figure out what to play next... I have just finished up Rachmoninoff's Prelude in C sharp minor, Beethoven's Sonata Pathetique 2nd Movement, and Chopin's Waltz in C sharp minor.  I do not want to play anything like Fantasie Impromptu.  I have been playing for about 6-7 years.  Any Suggestions??? :-\

How about Debussy's First Arabesque or Toccata.
Bach's  Prelude & Fugue c minor, or f minor , or g minor
Chopin's Etude 25/8
Chopin's Waltz in A minor  Opus/post
Beethoven's Sonata Op10 no. 1
try some of Clementi's sonatinas perhaps?

best wishes,  :)

You might want to check out Mendelssohn's Songs Without Words.  Some of them are pretty challenging, others not so much, but there are a lot of hidden gems in those sets.  Ginastera's Tres Danzas Argentinas are a little more modern, but they fit under the hand quite well if you're looking for something differnet.
However, if you like Beethoven, try Opus 26.  The first movement is a theme and variations :) and the whole sonata is just great but not often played.

Have you learned either the first or third movement of Pathetique? If you're capable of playing the Rach Prelude in C#, I think you could probably tackle the third movement, possibly the third.. You could look at some of the other chopin waltz and nocturnes. Um... Mozart Sonatas. Bach Inventions/Sinfonias/WTC... Those would be my suggestions.

HOw about Bach's Toccatta and Fugue in D minor. I think it was composed for the organ but there you can still buy the music for piano. Good Luck with your search.

I dont see anything wrong with asking people what they should play next. I dont like sarcasm either.

Sorry, this may be a weakness of mine, but I just cannot stand it if works, or pieces, or excerpts, or movements in classical music are referred to as *songs*, unless one truly means songs such as Lieder by Schubert.

There is of course nothing wrong with asking for advice on how to amplify one's repertoire!

Im sorry about pointing out your weaknesses....I do not like the works of music refferred to as *songs* either. I believe if people play them and they arent like boring like ur example, lieder by Schubert. Best wishes, aabbey
