Two improvisations (midi format!)
on: May 07, 2009, 02:05:23 AM
I finally got a midi cable to hook up my digital piano to my laptop. This is very exciting to me because now:

-I can play for an unlimited length of time (for all practical purposes anyway). My digital could only hold 10 minutes on its own.

-MIDI is unrestricted by rules of notation, so it can record the most complicated polyrhythms and crazy stuff an improviser can come up with perfectly

-I can play my recordings back through my digital piano, or on an acoustic piano with a disklavier system some day (this is VERY exciting to me, I'd love to see the keys move as they did when I originally recorded a piece)

-midi files are tiny, no more dozens of gigabytes being taken up on my pc

Here are two midis I recorded this evening. If anyone has some nice sound fonts, or even a disklavier, I'd love to hear how these sounded on your software/instrument!

Enjoy  :)

Great stuff, Derek. :)  I much prefer the pianoteq over the midi.

Thanks goldentone =).  I don't intend to post any more recordings made from pianoteq til I get the full version. It's kind of annoying having the missing notes. But, at least I'm making all my recordings with midi now so I will be able to convert them all.
