If you had a dream, what would you do??
on: May 08, 2009, 06:14:12 PM
I know that most of us have dreams to acheive goals in our lives.  I know that some of the members here are studying piano, what are your dreams?  And what about the hidden dreams that we never attained in our lives?  What would our desires be and are becoming as a person and as a musician?

I feel that I had missed my dream somehow after I learned to play the violin a few years ago.  And now, my *dream* (in which will never become a reality), is to be a concert violinist and travel the world and perform.  Although I have played piano most of my life, but somehow the violin has  wonderful pieces that are beautiful to behold and I would put my heart and soul into the music.   In reality, as I play my violin, I can still *dream*  and also, not regret that I never did learn to play violin.

best wishes,

I used to dream of retiring from work before they raise the retirement age.

Now, I dream that they will raise the retirement age to 80, because a dog could not live on the state pension.

Maybe to show my parents it can be possible to live ($$$) just beeing a musician. But all they want me to be is a sucessful architect, and it's getting more and more difficult for me to dedicate as much time for the piano as used to.
Now I just want to graduate, keep some money and use it on my career.
  That's my dream now.  :D

Sorry, but I suggest that you become an Architect.

But, be a good one, one who knows what they are actually talking about.

I would like to be an architect... but I just don't want to quit piano, or forget it makes part of me. But it seems like music is becoming secondary in my life right now. :(

I'm not trying to discourage you, but try to keep your options open, learn everything, lol.

I would go after the dream.  Which is what I'm doing now.  The dream, tempered with reality.

If I pick over again though, I'm not sure I would pick it.  I'm not sure it's worth the things you trade for it.  It probably doesn't matter in the end.  Things balance out.  In that case, go for it.  Either choice, any choice, is fine.

But you're already a very good pianist! What a waste, imo, if you don't become a pro.

I would go after the dream as long as I can and as long as I have the dream. They're not very realistic, though, and almost always involves another person.

- My dream as a child was to be a teacher. During high school, it was narrowed down to teaching math. I took math in university, but was more interested in music and art back then. I failed the math subject and dropped out of uni. I started over in another college, got very bored with my subjects and classmates, and decided to quit academics once and for all. I was already learning guitar at this time, and was considering getting serious with music.

- In high school, I had made a bad reputation and most everyone hated me. A certain girl was one of the exceptions. I had expressed my intent of leaving science high, but she wouldn't let me. Finally, I got the ax anyway, and she wrote a poem for me on the day I left the dormitory. I was very grateful for her friendship, and loved her in return. If it wasn't for her, I would have left science high hating everyone and myself. My dream was to write lyrics for her band. That following year, I would email her and write poetry.

- I followed her to university, and strove to see her at least every other day. The band has been disbanded, and she was done dabbling in music. I was getting stressed in university, so she suggested I take up guitar. And that's how I started. But I still wanted to be by her side, and she took me with her to apply for one of the Film organizations. She eventually gave it up for social work, and I was left attending seminars on film making. I got interested in film too, but on my own, I couldn't even start. I didn't have any script ideas, and as for shooting/ directing, I had no clue.

- I found myself spending less and less time with her, and getting more and more depressed, until I dropped out of university and went to see a therapist. He suggested I pursue music more "seriously" and to enroll in Yamaha school. The next year, I went to a nearby college to take Secondary Education. The students there weren't as intelligent as the ones in high school and university, and we had nothing in common. Except for this girl in the third year, she was awesome to say the least. My dream at the time was to make it through college somehow and be good friends with her. But I fell in love with her, became an awkward mess, and one time, I hit her. Long story short, I dropped out of college because I didn't see the point of staying in that school anymore.

- With the recommendation of my teacher at Yamaha, I took the integrated music course there, and am currently at my 2nd year. At this point, I only want to be with a certain person who loves me... I still think of being a teacher sometimes, and I would like to teach piano. But by this time I know that I won't make a good teacher, even if I do pass the exams.

hmmm ...

I do have a "dream" for piano at the time, but for now I will keep that almost entirely to myself.

As a person :

Sky diving
Hang Gliding
Travel the World
Know WAY more about music
Listen to WAY more music
Sing a lead role in an Opera (maybe)
Sing with an orchestra
Learn how to Scuba Dive
Scuba dive the Great Barrier reef
Remodel the house
Own 9 amazing Grand Pianos
Bicycle X-country
Back Pack a particular major trail (it would probably take about 3 months)
Compose something of 'significance'
Become fluent in way more languages
Be more fluent in Music ... no separation between my thoughts and musical expression
At least quadruple my level of being
Write a book
Collect more artwork
Build the house of my dreams
Sculpt something of value out of marble
Paint something to my satisfaction
Draw more
Turn something of value on the wood lathe
Learn more about artwork in general
Learn more about history ... WAY more
Learn WAY more about math
Make more beaded jewelry
Learn how to make other kinds of jewelry
Learn about clay and making pottery
Grow a successful garden this year
Plant fruit trees
Own more instruments and have the space for them
Learn more about Physics
Be a better person
Be a good teacher
Sit on the moon
Sit on top of mountains I have never been on
Know WAY more about everything
Learn more
Learn WAY more
Learn more and more
Learn a bunch more

.... hmmmm ...

I wouldn't consider my dreams, eternity pondering possibilities to be achieved, what i am  capable of, what i can do unless existence is nothing but a dream too :o
(which i seriously doubt) >:(

regardless of the goal
concentrate ones efforts by heart and soul,
great empires have risen yet all that remains
is a story to be told as ruins testify to it's end,
likewise humanities achievements regardless of how
small or great, impermanence is the predicament of mortalities fate,
time is not to consider what has been done or what one can do,
freedom and acceptance of the situation is something you have to choose,
dreams are a construct devoid of realism when man need's truth as it's guide,
to see the innate potential within without having to hide.

(written by me lol - i make my self laugh) >:( >:( >:(

And Eternity in an hour. - "William Blake"

Poems of Ecstasy – Scriabin’s Complete Piano Works Now on Piano Street

The great early 20th-century composer Alexander Scriabin left us 74 published opuses, and several unpublished manuscripts, mainly from his teenage years – when he would never go to bed without first putting a copy of Chopin’s music under his pillow. All of these scores (220 pieces in total) can now be found on Piano Street’s Scriabin page. Read more
