Empedocles eruption
on: May 08, 2009, 09:37:46 PM
Empedocles was a modest greek philosopher who threw himself into one of Mt Etna's craters in the sake of science and to prove that he was a god. This improvisation reflects his final climb.  :D

Hmmm :) fascinating idea! rather thoughtful music. Seems as if Empy is not so convinced of his mission. I like the harmonies and the step-like progressions :) The ending sounds like a dissolution into air and light....

Thanks Wolfi  :D. When I recorded it I was under the impression he threw himself in because he was obsessed with finding out what was down there even though he knew he would die. But the legend about how he wanted to prove himself as a god seemed more accurate after I read up on the subject. The first thought is more appealing though.

Petter!

The story of Empedocles: Oh, it angers me...what a fool! I think the line holds true: "Stop regarding man in whose nostrils is breath, for of what account is he?"

The improvisation: Now I like the music very much. It's like a fusion of Scriabin and Jazz. (Side thought - Uri Caine should do something on Mysterium for our pleasure.) But seriously, your work is original and branching out into new ground, and this excites me.

Please keep playing for our pleasure!
