grey background appears to flash unpleasantly

On my laptop, the new grey background of the website appears to be flashing almost like a strobe light. It is quite subtle, but it is bothersome enough as to be unpleasant.

Do you mean the background (with thin stripes) on the far left and right side of the website or the solid grey background behind the text?

The thin stripes background that you see to the extreme left and right of the main forum content stuff. It appears to be flickering.
