Hello,
I've had the opportunity to review a new release of the Rach 3 concerto, performed by Vitaly Samoshko.
I found his '99 recording of the concerto already one of the best ever (although the recording was technically not perfect)- he won the Queen Elisabeth Concours with this performance.
This new recording is the one i've been waiting for since a long time!! Technically, the recording is perfect and audiophiles among us will be happy with this. Although a SACD release would have been top!
My thought: Vitally's playing is relaxed, virtuose and detailed following the correct rhythm.(Sorry my technical piano knowledge is yet rather small

) There is no rush (cfr Argerich etc?), the orchestra joins the pianist in his playing: the piano is the central and crucial star, but has respect for the orchestra.
The release comes with a DVD of the performance which is a great bonus! It's also nice to hear the pianist's thoughts about the piece in an extra interview. Expected to be in the cdshops around the end of may.
