Copying file names to Word or Excel
on: May 20, 2009, 01:11:46 PM
I want to copy and paste all ‘My Document’ file names (not the file just the name of each one) from Windows xp to Excel or at least Word. Any ideas on how to do this, apart from copying and pasting each one or typing them out individually ?

So you want the name of the file and none of the contents transferred to a spreadsheet? Interesting...ima go experiment.

DirPrinting by MajuSoft
It's a freebie or was when I got it. I don't know if it will do a spreadsheet, but it will copying filenames to a temp file or your clipboard. Very useful.
I don't know where I got it exactly. You'll have to hunt for it but I imagine it's out there somewhere.

Yep. That's it. I started it up today to see if it was what I was thinking. I don't know what version I have but it worked for my purposes. I noticed the help files aren't present though today. And I see it does do Excel files on that link posted above. Nifty little program. If you have pdf music files with the file name being the title of the piece, you can have that program stick all those file name/titles into a word document. It will even copy filenames off subdirectories too. And it's free. I don't use it much but it's one of those free niche programs that is very useful in certain situations.

I see MajuSoft is German. Why am I not surprised? (Bob is impressed with many German things.)
I'm not too impressed with their site and it looks like they only have two or three programs, but the directory printing one is good. The others probably are too. If I ever need to convert Euros, I'm all set.
