Performances in Washington DC
on: May 24, 2009, 05:31:03 AM
I'm going to be interning in Washington DC this summer and I've been looking for places to see concerts and for some reason I've been having a really hard time finding stuff. Is there anyone familiar with the area who could tell me where to see piano related concerts (recitals, concertos, etc)? I'll be on an extremely tight budget, so anything cheap or free would be ideal. We have a lot of free concert in the park things in Chicago but I'm not sure if they do it in DC. Also, are there any outdoor summer music festivals similar to Ravinia near Chicago? Thanks!

The National Park called the Wolf Trap outside of D.C. has concerts I played there with the NSO a couple of summers ago, but it's more like a outdoor thing with some 5-6000 in the audience than a "serious" concert. It could be a quite neat experience, though. There is also The Barn (also at Wolf Trap), which is a nice place for concerts and a much smaller setting. I played there during regular season, but I assume they have summer concerts, too.
