World record for longest performance
on: May 28, 2009, 12:17:15 AM
I found a pic on Yahoo News.  This is the cpation.

Canadian musician Gonzales plays piano in pyjamas on May 17, 2009 in Paris. Canadian musician Gonzales broke the world record on Monday for the longest-ever solo concert after he succeeded in playing the piano for a grueling 27 hours 3 minutes and 44 seconds.

I guess this would be the longest performance by a human.  A human present and performing for the entire performance.

This is the only 'classical music' type thing that I've ever heard on a rock radio station in a while.  I live in Ottawa, and a little bit on this performance came up and I was pretty impressed, because I wouldn't expect an alternative rock station to say much about this.
Interested in discussing:

-Prokofiev Toccata
-Scriabin Sonata 2

It's not a 'classical music' type thing.  I believe he was playing his own arrangements and improvisations on popular tunes.  Just playing whatever came to his head at the moment.

I personally don't find this very impressive.  It seems people do this sort of stuff all the time to get attention.

Paul Jacobs, the famous organist (not pianist), has on many occasions played Bach's complete organ works in concert without stopping. That takes over 18 hours to do. I find that much more impressive than what this hack did, which wasn't even classical. It was basically a one man jam session, which I'm sure anyone else could do with all that material flying at the (from the audience).

I heard on the radio he was playing his arrangements among other things by some well known composers. Maybe the source that I heard it wasn't reliable, but did he actually not play a single classical piece the entire time?

My god!!! not a single "classical piece" did he play... does that make his skill or performance invalid? Was Chopin Classical? What is Classical? granted he is a bit honky-tonk, but he's one of the few people today to write accessable pieces for piano ..
anyone who plays for 27hours and takes requests from the audience ..and puts on a pyjamas and has a shave whilst playing at the same time earns my applause...

A bit of a rant..sorry... but have a listen anyhow and see what you think ...a  bit of a showman..unlike the other nerdy niceguys doing the performance circuit these days

I completely agree, this is what some people would do to get their names out. It's almost like actresses fabricating wardrobe malfunction just to get press.
