OK... maybe I'm a bit confused about the whole thing but isn't Level 2 like Grade 2??? Or is this a different system... Is Level 2 like Licentiate or something??? Because the 3rd Movement of the Appasionata is certainly Grade 8 at least...

My advice for pieces that are fast and constantly straining... is to practice the piece at exactly half the speed you want to play it at and slowly build up...

I don't know why I say exactly half speed, but I'm using the same technique to learn and practice the Brahms Paganini Variations and the Stravinsky Petrouchka and so far it seems to have some value.

I think the reason is that you can focus on keeping it constantly flowing and the half speed helps the brain to understand what the proper tempo will be like.... OK... now I think I'm just waffling...

If there are any passages you're having trouble on - a couple of bar numbers might help us... help you.

How about trying an easier sonata which would be at your level?   It seems to me that level 2 would not be ready for the Appasionata Sonata.  Try out Opus 49 No. 2, Opus 44/1, Opus 79, and if you can play those fairly well, then you can progress to the more difficult sonatas.  Appasionata ranks as  # 27  of  the 32  Sonatas in the difficulty chart....granted that some of the movements of the sonatas may be easier.  Good luck in your studies!

best wishes,

Piano Street Magazine:
Women and the Chopin Competition: Breaking Barriers in Classical Music

The piano, a sleek monument of polished wood and ivory keys, holds a curious, often paradoxical, position in music history, especially for women. While offering a crucial outlet for female expression in societies where opportunities were often limited, it also became a stage for complex gender dynamics, sometimes subtle, sometimes stark. From drawing-room whispers in the 19th century to the thunderous applause of today’s concert halls, the story of women and the piano is a narrative woven with threads of remarkable progress and stubbornly persistent challenges.
