Repertoire suggestion to teach a student
on: May 30, 2009, 09:47:44 PM
Hello there, I have a student who is interested in classical music but enjoys playing a variety of music to acquire a better technique. Any one have any suggestion?  His experience is about 6 years of piano from 1st grade but eventually gave up and wants to return after a few years of silence.
I think inventions and such are a good start. And I would like something in that area of difficulty. Anything else? thank you

It's hard to determine how well your students plays after *a few years of silence* and I don't know the age of your student.  Anyhow, sonatinas have different levels and in which you could present to your student.

Are you familiar with the Faber & Faber published by the FJH Music Company?
*The Piano Sonatinas Series  4 books(Early Intermediate to Early Advanced).
*The Piano Literature Series ,  4 books(Late Elementary to Late Intermediate).

Some other pieces:   J.S Bach "Prelude in C (WTC Book 1, No. 1),  Fur Elise;  Chopin's Prelude in D flat Major;  Debussy's Clair De Lune.

best wishes,

I like the Masterworks Classics series edited by Jane Magrath (available through Alfred publishing).  There are books from levels 1-10 and each volume has pieces from baroque through modern.
When you earnestly believe you can compensate for a lack of skill by doubling your efforts, there's no end to what you can't do.
