What skills would you teach a student at a beginner level?
A piano student should develop his skills simultaneously. So which skills you gonna teach the student? Please for discussion here, please

As duly noted, there are some wonderful threads that you can check into. Just scoll down and click around to find several topics on teaching a young student skills. To me a young student doesn't have the comprehension nor the coordination to acquire a skill unless they are 8+ years old.
Just have the young students keep playing on the keyboard and imitate you. Nothing new about it in Pedagogy. And it all depends upon the child whether he or she would be interested enough to continue to play piano, most likey a majority of children quit if they learn at an early age anyhow; and then return to playing piano a few years later. By then perhaps the skills can be acquired and developed.
best wishes,

Here are some resources that may help answer your question more comprehensively. All three of them give specific skills that beginners should learn.
Well Tempered Keyboard Teacher by Uszler, Gordon, and McBride-Smith
How to Teach Piano Successfully - James Bastien
Professional Piano Teaching - Jeanine Jacobson

When you earnestly believe you can compensate for a lack of skill by doubling your efforts, there's no end to what you can't do.
