How far have you gone with stimulants?
on: June 25, 2009, 04:39:56 PM
Just curious, wondering what the limit is.  If there is one.  Anything consistent is probably not so healthy though.

I am (was only "considering" but now "am") using more stimulants.  Good old caffeine.

Just wondering how much is healthy -- caffeine, energy drinks, etc.  Things like that.

And about side effects.

It's only temporary.  ::)

I'm thinking more temporary (as in a month or so) use, not something like "One time I drank 7 Red Bulls and I felt so wasted man...."  I'm thinking something more like "I drank x-number cups of coffee per day, x in the morning, y in the afternoon, z at night."

There have been periods in my life when my entire fluid intake (discounting fluids in 'solid' food, of course) has consisted of coffee. Never did me any harm, he says, floating gently near the ceiling. No, joking apart, no effect on me at all in practical terms.

I always hesitate to take more, but more works too.

I think there is a thread elsewhere, as I recall, about caffeine intake.....
It  depends upon the individual.  Some like and some can't handle it.
I can't by the way.  So no caffeine or I would climb the walls.

Lucky you.  You could take in just a smidge and be very alert.  I'm wondering about those energy drinks too.  I do remember now... People were have heart attacks or something off them.  That's probably the other thread. Dang...

Those energy drinks that usa happens to disperse in the population, is like poison and will
cause death if consumed too much.  I really don't know why our country has to produce such
killer foods for people and it's a drug on the market right in our *super markets*.   ::)

You build up a tolerance to caffeine though.  After awhile it won't have the same effect.  Then it will wear down until it has no effect, or very little.

Believe it or not love is a stimulant, my first experience of it was as a teenage boy, my friends and teachers would ask me " are you on drugs ". The side effects were similar I guess, a real high, a real low, madness, going cold turkey, recovery , more madness, delusion, shame ect ect.

 Sorry guys. :P

Oh yeah and tea does that count. :-*

This is not good.  (does some 'quick' mental calculations which are taking longer than normal)  About 800mg/day, plus a 5 hour energy drink.  Not good.

My country provided a "stimulus" of 1.2 trillion dollars.  Does that count?
(although I haven't seen a dime of it...or been stimulated)

As far as having energy, nothing beats a full night's sleep.  I think most people do not get their quota of needed sleep.  I need at least 9 hours of sleep to really feel good.  The author of Power Sleep said how much sleep you require is the point where you don't need an alarm clock to wake you up when you need to get up.  You can keep setting your alarm clock back until you discover exactly how much you need.  A great boon for getting our sleep is increased creativity.

Haha.  If I set my alarm clock back, I'll end up staying up a little later at night too.

I had an idea.... Ween off one stimulant, get rid of some tolerance, by switching over to another one.  That could work.

I know a fellow who has tons of energy.  He works out a lot and loves those energy drinks.  Apparently he also takes a bunch of pills of some sort daily for MORE POWER!!!  I think his heart is due to explode any day now.

I need three cups of coffee in the morning to function normally, any less than I'm a zombie. If I drink more than that throughout the day it doesn't give me any extra jump, it just makes me more normal.

Maybe you could take a break from the caffeine...just cut it off for a month and see if it works better afterwards. In the meantime, there's an herb--ginseng--that works pretty well for energy, too. But it's lethal if you use too much, and if you take it continuously you'll end up with cankersores and nosebleeds :l

That's what I thought.  At least cut down.  I can't go for a month without it.  Waaay too much.  But yes, it would give it back its kick that way.

No canker sores or nosebleeds.  Just fatigue.  It allows me to push myself more.

And the other not-so-nice side effect -- I lose my weekend.  I do cut back on the weekend and end up groggy, dragging myself around.  As opposed to dragging myself around on the weekdays.  (Bob thinks he's turning into a zombie.)  I sleep late, take less caffeine, and then it's mid-afternoon before I start coming out of the grogginess.

Oh, that doesn't sound too good for your health :l Think of your lost weekends as detox XD
If you're going to be groggy those days you might as well catch up on lost zs (:

Strange that no one has mentioned beta-blockers so far.  Albeit, used under other circumstances.

I thought beta-blockers were depressants.

You need a prescription for them too.
