Steingraeber Phoenix pianos
on: June 26, 2009, 10:04:39 PM
I had the extraordinary experience today of trying several new Steingraeber pianos, many of them fitted with the 'Phoenix System'.

I've long been a fan of the pianos, having played a few in various venues including private homes, but the Phoenix bridge agraffe makes the most amazing difference, giving unbelievable sustain in the treble and (together with the beautiful action) effortless cantabile tone. I do urge anyone with the possibility to do so, to play such a piano at the earliest opportunity.
Let's put it this way: I very frequently play on a particular Steinway model C (227cm) which isn't the best instrument Steinway ever built but is, with care, controllable and capable of some quite lovely sounds. But getting to that stage on it took a lot of familiarity and is quite hard work. I got more control and better tone from the Steingraebers within a few bars of beginning to play each one. Any time I have the choice I shall most certainly use one for any performance or recording.
Usual disclaimer - I'm not in any kind of business relationship with Steingraeber or any of its agents etc. etc. I'm just a jobbing professional piano player who loves his job!
