Umm... here. :)  (Bob hands out burnt-but-still-raw pizza.)  Uh... The burnt part represents the fireworks... and the raw part represents the... innocence? of the country and what is still to be...  ::)

(Bob is wondering if the pizza really was in the oven for an hour...)

Happy 4th.  I'm done cooking for the week. ::)

Well have fun.  The US is beholden to no one on this planet, as Noam Chomsky says 'What We Say Goes'.  Yes, the US is beholden to no one, the only country to break every SINGLE treaty, it is just too good, it is God inspired, and most Americans actually believe that.

The total laughing stock of the world: Americans think the world was created according to Genesis, they love their guns, they want a Constitutional amendment defining 'marriage', a big deal is made about abortion, yet how many states condone capital punishment?  It is a country of complete and utter hypocrites.

The biggest terrorist organization on this planet, and most Americans are too stupid to know that.    Happy 4 July, indeed.

LOL, hardly.  But thanks anyway, another American so smitten with the glory of their bloody country.  How could anyone else feel differently?

That's a real problem isn't it?  You don't think beyond the borders of the US, do you?  Americans are so ignorant and proud of it... that is their God given heritage.  God is always on the side of the Americans.  A country truly convinced of it.

Yes, indeed; in terms of illegal warmongering, for example, it just tops the deserved reputation of the country in which you and I live (Britain, in case anyone's unsure).

The total laughing stock of the world:
So Britain is only the laughing stock of most of the world, then?

Americans think the world was created according to Genesis, they love their guns,
Whilst I'm no Biblical scholar, I don't recall any guns in Genesis...

they want a Constitutional amendment defining 'marriage',
And, in principle, is there anything wrong about that?

a big deal is made about abortion, yet how many states condone capital punishment?  It is a country of complete and utter hypocrites.

The biggest terrorist organization on this planet, and most Americans are too stupid to know that.
A big deal is made about abortion by SOME Americans, A FEW states condone capital punishment and there are indeed complete and utter hypocrites in America; similar remarks can justly be made of other countries. America might be the "biggest terrorist organisation (I note with some irony your chosen use of the American spelling of that word!) on this planet", but is it America's fault that it is the size that it is? If one considers the size of terrorist threat in terms of its extent per capital of the population, would you not agree that there are plenty of other nations with at least as bad a record of terrorism? And do you really believe that more than a quarter of a billion Americans are all tarred with the same brush?

I am no fan of certain activities carried out in and on behalf of America or of certain perceptions emanating from that country, but your implication that the US as a whole can offer the rest of the world nothing other than Christian fundamentalist anti-abortionist illegal-warmongering capital-punishment-toting terrorism is as risible as it is insulting to many Americans, particularly on this day. I wonder if you would have been prepared to go to Aldeburgh recently and tell all that to Elliott Carter (whose wife, who died several years ago, was, incidentally, born on the fourth of July).

At least when Thal proffers examples of his racism, one can sense a tongue in at least part of his cheek; I don't see any evidence of the same here, unless I am missing a considerable subtlety in your expressions...

Happy Fourth of July from a Scotsman!

"We Brits" (if I can momentarily include myself in that categorisation) are no more unintelligent and uncivil than "you Americans"; there are plenty of examples of lack of intelligence and civility on both sides of the pond but such characteristics are by no means typical either of Americans or Brits. I just happen to think that "argerichfan"'s anti-American outburst was singularly inappropriate today, irrespective of his own now divulged half-American status...

Perhaps it would be more appropriate if I were 100% American.

Regarding Elliott Carter, I would be honoured to meet him.  I would never make a reference to his country as I'd rather chat about his music.  BTW, I have the 2 piano score of the piano concerto (does Thal have that one?), though I confess -unlike Night Fantasies or the piano sonata- I've never been able to penetrate it.

Thal, I hope you were kidding about the gun...

Weiss I just noticed your post here:  Nobody is *ignorant*  and  lets not start a *war* here, I mean to say.  All Bob did here was to post a Happy 4th in his own way with songs and fireworks.  And now, some members are already spewing off their opinions about the British and  the Americans.  By the way, most Americans are immigrants and I am one of them.  Duh???   ::)

And now, some members are already spewing off their opinions about the British and  the Americans.
Are you aware that every SINGLE non-American poll which asks the question: 'What country is the greatest threat to world peace' comes out the same way?  It is always the US.

I would sincerely hope that responsible Americans might give that a thought, but I see no evidence of that.  The US has always been beyond accountability on this planet, and that is why I hate it.

That said, my mother is American, and I have many American friends in cyberspace.  Wonderful folks, we just don't talk about certain issues.
