You have that? Would you mind sending it to me? Or is it in real life format?

A friend of mine scanned it but marked it not for circulation.

To me, it looks impossible.

There is a copy of it circulating the net. Your friend (who is it?) must have not known that. It's poor quality though.

I just finished sequencing Mihalovici's sonatine for piano, op. 11. The third movement of that work is a toccata (vivace) that is filled with polytonal/chromatic fun.

Ned Rorem has a toccata as the third movement of his first piano sonata. (I think its also published as a stand alone piece)

Since this thread has been bumped, I'll mention the Purcell/Stevenson Toccata. I know Retrouvailles mentioned somewhere along the line that he's not after baroque toccatas, but as this is a piano transcription maybe it's of interest.

Could you post an mp3 or sheet music?  I heard this in concert before, and I want to hear it again.

Sheet music can't be posted, for Ned Rorem is still alive.

As well as the Paderewski Introduction and Toccata noted earlier, his "Dans le désert" is also a toccata...very entertaining, too.
I know of two toccatas by Alexander Tcherepnin; I especially like the second of these.
An attractive Toccata ends the 3rd suite by York Bowen.
Joseph Rheinberger wrote a couple of Toccatas which recall those of Bach, in that they consist of several sections in different tempi. So, too, does the Toccata for piano and orchestra by Respighi.
Don't forget the solo Toccata that Saint-Saëns based on the finale of his "Egyptian" Concerto, and the more modest, but entertaining, one in F# minor by the same composer.

There are numerous toccatas and a good number have been mentioned here.

Did Godowsky write one? I am wondering if Balakirev wrote a toccata or a tarrantella or both?

Be it as it may, I love the Busoni-Bach transcriptions, in particular the famous D minor. I also play Chaminade's toccata on the odd occasion. The score is very beautiful and only of moderate difficulty, so the bigots should ignore it.
Currently rehearsing:

Chopin Ballades (all)
Rachmaninov prelude in Bb Op 23 No 2
Mozart A minor sonata K310
Prokofiev 2nd sonata
Bach WTCII no 6
Busoni tr Bach toccata in D minor

Godowsky's Toccata is listed on the IMSLP site.
Balakirev wrote both!
It occurs to me that there is a toccata by Raff which is a movement from one of his suites.

One 18th-century and three fantastic contemporary toccatas:

Pietro Domenico Paradisi: Toccata in A-major

Vassil Kazandjijev: Toccata

Robert Muczynski: Toccata op.15

Bruno Vlahek: Jazz Toccata

I am fairly surprised that no-one has mentioned the delightful Prokofiev Toccata in D minor, Op. 11. It's a youthful work, bubbling with energy.
Albeniz - Suite Espagnole
Bach - Goldberg Vars
Chopin - Ballade No 2, Barcarolle, Polonaise Op 44
Beethoven - Sonata No 31
Mozart - Sonata No 14
Schubert - Sonata No 16
Prokofiev - Sonata No 2

Now - here's the challenge; no. 1 has been edited in typeset form by Richard Younger and performed and recorded by Jonathan Powell, no. 2 was premièred by the composer in 1936 and has not been performed since, although it now exists in a typeset edition by Alexander Abercrombie, no. 4 has neither been edited nor performed - but no. 3 was lost in the early 1960s, so - see if you can find its manuscript!

Best,

Alistair

Donna Amato will give the US premiere of Toccata No.2 on March 13th in Pennsylvania.

Here's one from a Mexican composer, Leonardo Velázquez.

I played it in 2012, I remember liking it after first just making a quick superficial readings, then when I started learning it I couldn't make much sense out of it and didn't like, plus it was a pain to memorize. Now after playing it I like it much more, I intend to relearn it.
