Trying to choose music...
on: July 26, 2009, 12:17:05 AM
I'm not absolutely certain I'm posting this in the right forum, but I'm trying to fill in the gaps in my repertoire. I need a Baroque piece and I'd like to add another of Brahms' op. 118 pieces (I am playing no. 2). Any suggestions? Pieces that you really enjoyed?
Looking for a Baroque piece. Suggest one?

If you're looking for music of the baroque era, you should look at Scarlatti sonatas or Bach Well-Tempered Clavier. I'm not sure how advanced you are but if you're more advanced you could look at Bach's suites and Handel suites. For the Brahms all the pieces of op.118 are great so I would just choose whichever one you want.

What are your gaps? If you're interested in filling your gaps, perhaps it's not best to continue with Op. 118 and instead look at something different, since you already have a Brahms. Give us an idea of what your gaps are and we might be able to turn you to some interesting works you haven't heard of before.

Oh, the Baroque spot is the only one I need to fill. So far I think I've only done Bach...lots of Preludes and Fughes and a couple of the Inventions.
imbetter: I'll definitely take a look at those, thanks!
My repertoire has one piece/set (or pieces from the same set) from every era (?) to make it work around competitions and festivals.
I have barely learned no. 2 so I won't be switching out pieces anytime soon. Because I already have one of the Brahms op 118 I have to choose another of the same set if I want to play both in one competition :l The good thing is that they are all very nice. Any favorites?

From op.118 I think the Ballade makes a great contrast to the Intermezzo. Maybe you should look at that.
