Brahms Piano Concerto No 2 and Karin Lechner
on: August 02, 2009, 07:00:59 AM
alrite so i guess ill start with....a couple of months ago i really got into brahms, and ever since have been listening to this recording of his second piano concerto that i had in my itunes. I never knew who performed it, and despite that, no matter which recording i had heard subsequently (gilels, richter, etc), i kept coming back to this one recording, not knowing who had performed it. so today i finally checked. To my surprise it was recorded by a woman by the name of Karin Lechner, who, once i googled her, did not seem that old, infact she is still quite young, and from my experience is not that well known. I was literally, STUNNED, as i am now actually. Maybe this is old news to you guys, but seriously. if you have not heard her recording, please take the time to listen to it, infact i can upload it if someone wants to hear it, its....just brilliant.

Karin Lechner is a protege of Martha Argerich. She is of Argentinian ancestry and grew in Venezuela before moving to (I think) Europe to study. She is the older sister of Sergio Tiempo, with whom she has played four-hand and two-piano music a lot. Karin is a devoted chamber musician and appears to me very, and wisely, selective about what and when she plays the soloist literature.
Apart from her lovely Brahms second, she plays a Ravel G major that will melt your spinal chord.
A great pianist whom I think is looking into the future for what a happy and successful career as a musician should be. I think if she had the appetite for it she could have the career of an Schnabel or a Moura Limpani.
Viva Sopotocientos!
