Standing diversions
on: August 14, 2009, 11:30:25 AM
As opposed to “Sitting diversions.” I was standing for these. I think there was no chair or bench, actually.

My favorite part of pianostreet is the improvisation board. It’s been my favorite guilty pleasure.
For your summer enjoyment, I’m posting some “diversions” with dedications. These are purely silly fun, laced with a joyous humor. I get a kick out of them…but I’m me. You can decide for yourself if they’re as entertaining as they are.
Played on one of those portable Yamaha keyboards with 88 weighted keys and a little peddle, although I only used any peddle in “Nostalgia.” Note the times and a bit about them.
The two bigs…
“To Wolfi” (5:25) is dedicated to Pianowolfi for one reason, and I think if he hears it, he’ll know that reason.
“Nostalgia” (6:43) is dedicated to Goldentone. It’s a beautiful night, with appearances of some of my themes born in childhood.
and the two littles…
Tip it (1:09) No dedication. One small thing vaguely reminded me of something of Tippett’s.
School kids (0:39) No dedication. School kids are the cool kids, you know?
Enjoy!

Hi Furtwängler, thank you so much for thinking of me
I like "To Wolfi" it's so much fun to listen to
Gotcha
I even think that there's a more hidden reason, in the first part of the piece.perhaps not even intended but I'm not sure...
Right now I'm listening to "Nostalgia"
"Themes born in childhood" sounds per se nostalgic and the piece as well.
makes me curious...
"Tip it" and "school kids" make me smile and even laugh, reminding me of my current situation. All the kids are back from (huge) vacation and I have to deal with them..a lot of them are soooooo far away from piano and don't remember *anything*
...playfulness, as go12_3 mentioned, may help to get over these 3-4 hardest weeks of the year..
Anyway
I like your music

Thank you for the kind comments, Go, Wolfi. I'm glad the humor is apparent.
Wolfi, I went in with no plan at all, the Dies Irae appearing as a joke within itself (followed by the sad quote of the happy horn theme of Schubert's Great, and the tag that follows, which I think is actually from a local TV station's weather messages!)
No sir, there's not much to these, but it's summer and that's why they're diversions!

I was quite surprised by the dedication, Furtwaengler. Thank you.
I like Nostalgia.
It sounds like you were having a lot of fun with that stint of runs there. After the runs, the music turns passionate. It's very good music that quickly moves forward in an inexorable fashion. You're brimming with ideas.
Thanks again.
