question about a gershwin book
on: August 18, 2009, 12:26:24 AM
i had a question about a gershwin book. i was searching for a book of just gershwin songs/music in a fakebook style. if i type 'gershwin' on amazon.com i get like 30 different gershwin songbooks.  i found one that caught my interest

https://www.amazon.com/Just-Gershwin-Real-Book-Books/dp/0757914012/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1250554829&sr=1-1

has anyone ever looked at this book? if you have, could you tell me if this book is good/accurate or if there is a better gershwin songbook i can purchase?

thank you for your time

Comb binding.  They're wising up.

It's a fakebook.  It's written with just the melody in notation and the chords with letters.

I have this one.  I didn't research it, but if it's arranged by Gershwin... Hopefully they didn't edit it much.  It didn't look like a chessy, watered down arrangement.  I don't know why Tony Esposito is listed as the author.  It has three positive reviews.  The arrangments did seem kind of short, but I thought it was more advanced.

I have that book too. As far as I know the arrangements are by Gershwin himself, and they're a lot of fun. They're the kinds of things he used to play at parties. André Watts has recorded the whole set.
