Brahms Hungarian Dance No. 5 - Solo Piano
on: August 21, 2009, 03:16:58 AM
Bars 29 - 31, RH. Any ideas on how to play this? I'm having trouble switching direction from the octave to the single sixteenths, and I'm wondering whether or not to maintain the octave shape in the hand throughout the passage? Thanks.

Well, what you said is kind of what I did...

When I learned this piece a few months back I tried in vain to do as my schirmer edition suggested; that was to play 2 3 and then the octave on the F# by swinging up my hand. I finally cracked this when i thought to play the single notes with my thumb and keeping my hand in the octave position in order to play the octaves, ie; on the D and E of bar 29, play with the thumb and the the F~ octave with the thumb and fifth finger and continue to play the other single notes with the thumb only holding the octave position!   ::)

A bit long-winded but I hope it helps!   ;D
