Help trying to identify older upright.
on: August 23, 2009, 10:45:02 PM
As subject implys, I am trying to identify the manufacturer and possibly the year it was made of an older upright.  I have looked inside and out, and only found a sticker or some form of marking on the inside top of the piano.  The exterior has been painted and then stripped and stained and I have a feeling that care was not taken to preserve the name markings on the exterior of the piano, if there were any to begin with.  Any help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance,
Will

Does it say 'International Pitch' at the top of the harp or is it just my eyes?
That may suggest around the 1930's as that was when the 440Hz tuning was decided upon.

Anybody have any other ideas?

Looks like DG Co. or GD Co.  (Bob laughs at GD Co.) :)

It would be interesting to know, but if they don't put their name on it...

If it's that old though, maybe the name plate fell off or someone refurbished it.

You could try looking all over on the inside, etc., and seeing if there's any more information.  Take everything off that comes off.  (which sounds wrong too.. haha)

You could search for the name of the brass flange thing they patented.  That might give you a name to work off of, maybe explaing what DG is.
