What can I play?
on: August 24, 2009, 01:39:46 AM
Hello!,

I was looking for some advise. I currently don't have a teacher, haven't played for a year or so but I want to start taking lessons again. I was wondering if there's a Beethoven Sonata I could play. I want to have something to show to my future teacher to take it from there. The last pieces I played were:

Bach Invention no 4, Mozart Sonata K 545 and Liszt Consolation No. 3

Thanks in advance!

More Bach inventions, if you like them. Or try some of the pieces from the first book of the Well-Tempered Clavier (these are considered invaluable to students).

And Beethoven composed two "easy" sonatas, for students and amateurs (Richter played them in concerts during his late years though) you might enjoy if you still like K. 545. They are a bit more difficult maybe.

The first is the easier of the two.

Play whatever you are comfortable with.  Do not overdo things.  You may need to learn and re-learn a few things.

Hello,

Sorry it took me so long to reply back. Thanks a lot both of you for your advise, it was really helpful!. I didn't have much time to prepare though. I began taking lessons again and the first piece she gave me is Beethoven's Sonata 20 op 49 in G Major.

Thanks again!
