I need help in my future career.
on: August 24, 2009, 04:51:23 AM
It is really in my heart that I can be a composer.
but the environment does not permit it.
In the Philippines, there is only one university that has a department of music which is University of Santo Thomas.
The department has only one course : Bachelor in music.
most music in the Philippines are plain boring. I like simple music but there is a line that separates plain from simple music. Unlike in Japan, United Kingdom, Korea, United States,
The Philippine music use a unpoetic syntax , Plain guitar instruments , Wrong orchestration.
The shows in the Philippines have no incidental music at all.
If there are, It is inharmonious with the situation or the incidental music is borrowed from outside the country.
Singers in the Philippines had songs borrowed songs from outside the country which was famous 20 years ago.
I wish I could be a composer but there are no composition coursees in the Philippines.
I have no choice but to study abroad.
But I could not pay the financial price.
but I wish to study here

After thinking, I realized that I have to compose out of my league, If I will be a composer in the Philippines. I need to be a genius or compose something indifferent.
I was able to think of it when my fellow Filipino people when I was in China saw me present a performance of just one-half of Winter wind etude. For them it is nosebleed
But I will be an ordinary performer in the eyes of the foreigners.
Yet I have no match for lang-lang,Yundi-lee or an ordinary performer in Japan
So My first question is:
How do I fulfill my career as a composer?
My second Question is:
How can I study abroad?
If someone here is a proffesor please help me?
My Third Question is:
Should I quit?

Welcome back.
I see I'm not the only one who's been thinking of quitting music. I got depressed, and when classes started, got sick also. When I got better, I felt too awful to go back to music school.
Can you come to Manila and study? There are several other conservatories and there may be hope, however small, for you if you really want it.

The most important thing right now is to keep practicing. Then when the time comes worry about this.

How old are you now? like 14 or 15? anyway, instead of thinking about what will happen in 2 or 3 years allocate this time to practicing. If you are good you could probably get a scholarship which would help solve the money issue. Don't quit.

Gosh, I don't know what to say. I'd been banking on the possibility of teaching piano and/ or guitar. That is all. I'm already 20. but I haven't reached the advanced levels of either instrument yet.
You're still young, so you can train to be a performer and get into conservatory. After that, I have no idea.

My Idea is about studying composition abroad.
If the University Conservatory will let me of one etude, one full sonata and any song.
What should I prepare if I will enter the composition.
