Chopin's Albumleaf
on: August 31, 2009, 02:12:55 PM

My second video! Last time I got lots of great criticism, and I feel like I was at least on the way to fixing them.

Balancing the hands- I feel although my left hand is still a little loud, it's not nearly as drastic as it used to be.

Rubato- I got told that I should put more rubato into my playing, and it seemed that I put at least more than last time.

Pedal- My pedal was a bit sloppy at some times, but I don't feel it was as sloppy as last time. A little bit of improvement, I hope. :)

Hit me with your new criticisms! I learned so much last time!

Hey kind

You've got some very neat playing. Although I didn't hear the 1st video but I know that you've done lots of work on this piece.

You talked about rubato. I think that maybe you still need a bit of work before you head to rubato. You still lack a bit of legato. Try loosening your wrists and just let it follow your fingers, the result will be a big difference.

Best Wishes,

Em

You play very well, but Chopin is about expression , loud and soft, with more
freedom and not be so rigid in playing this piece.  It has got to flow from your
heart unto the keyboard....play with feeling.   :)  Just keep on practicing and
you'll get the hand of it.

best wishes,

Hi kind,

I believe you've made very good progress!  This piece is taking shape nicely.

You do play with more expression now, and the rubato is better than I would expect for an adult beginner.  Although it's good that you have the piece memorized now, it's always helpful to practice with the score now and then to ensure that inaccuracies are not entering your playing.  On that little stumble toward the end, isolate it and practice that passage slowly several times until you can play it perfectly three times in a row.  Include a few notes from the prior measure and a few notes from the following measure, so that when you put the passage back into context, it will automatically tie into what precedes and what follows.  The balancing of the hands has improved markedly.  In the section where the left hand carries the melody for awhile, it's appropriate that the LH be louder than the RH there, so that's perfectly OK the way you're playing it.

Pedaling is better, but still needs work.  You've got a few really big smudges in there.  Remember, harmonic changes and figuration with passing tones are two situations (there are many more) calling for pedal changes, otherwise it all blurs together.  Developing your ears to control to listen critically to pedaling takes time, so don't be discouraged.  In Chopin you want to pedal for clarity.

You're doing well in your piano studies.  Keep up the good work!   :)

Thank you for posting this I've never heard it before and you play it well. As go_123 said, Chopin's lyrical pieces are so rich in intonation and imagination and I think you'll play it better if you free it up a bit.

But otherwise good job!

I'm glad to hear that you enjoyed it! It really was a nice piece to learn. I'm guessing that the "easiness in execution" will come to me naturally as I get more comfortable with the piano. I will continue to strive for it! :)

Thanks so much for your input!
