Casta diva (arrangement for left hand only)
on: September 03, 2009, 10:01:32 PM
The highly obscure arrangement by Adolfo Fumagalli, from a recent recital.
A while back I posted a trial run of this arrangement so here's a more official attempt. I still think it's quite testing, and I was somewhat perturbed to be told about a week before the performance (by someone whose opinion I value considerably) that I had a fundamental misconception regarding the breaking of all the left hand chords and pseudo-chords: namely that in the jumps I should have the supporting bass note(s) before the beat and the jump should land on the upper melody note on the beat. However, my natural tendency had been to gravitate towards the bass note on the beat and the upper melody note arriving "late". I'm very grateful to rachfan for the helpful discussion we had over this.
I've not fully dealt with the issue as trying to reconceive the piece in that way at such short notice was playing havoc with my memory.

Alternatively, audio attached below (I think youtube has degraded the audio quality).
Feedback is welcomed, and if anyone has opinions on the interpretative issue above, I would certainly be interested in hearing them.
