Average amount of time?
on: September 07, 2009, 07:24:53 PM
What is the average amount of time that people have been playing piano before they can learn 'moonlight' sonata? I'm just curious, but I really would like to know.

Hmmm.  I think it was four or five years for me.  I worked a little on third movement but never finished it.

Unless you can get accurate statistics of all people who ever played Moonlight sonata, you can only guess. My guess is...don't bother guessing.

Maybe I should rephrase that. If you can play 'Moonlight' Sonata, how long had you been playing before you could play it?

A year, or less, depending on how many hours you practice a day (and how long you have been playing piano).

Two years if you want to play it like Gould.

If you think it might take you more than a year to learn, then you're not "ready"... And really, who wants to spend more than a year learning a piece of music?

Theres no point in these questions. The learning speed depends alot on age of the person when he/she starts playing. And what do you mean with 'playing'? like being able to play it technically, or do you also have to be able to make real music out of it?
