legatto/staccato technique

I have been having piano lessons for about 18 months, and currently am learning a study which involves legatto in the right and staccato in the left hand, can anybody suggest an exercise for this, as i am struggling!! :-*

Train on left hands first, get the feeling of staccato

Try playing scales hands together first and then play RH Legato, LH staccato... Try and focus on keeping the RH smooth and get the feel of playing the LH staccato with a little bounce.

Then reverse... But what you want it to feel comfortable about having the two independant hands playing different articulation.
