Video: Cziffra's Paraphrase on Il trovatore
on: September 13, 2009, 12:01:39 AM
A while back I posted a test run of this crazy transcription in the audition room

That was the "no pressure" performance, as it took place in front of fellow students on a piano course. Last month I "had to" (ok, I was stupid enough to choose to  ;D ) do it for real in a concert. In the meantime I've tried to improve the range of the performance, make it more exciting, personal, freer, etc.

Here's a video of last month's concert performance - it's certainly not perfect, but feedback is appreciated!

Bravo!  Anything with Cziffra's name on it will be next to impossible to play.  And sure enough, in "Il Trovatore" there is much call for virtuosic bravura in all of its forms.  You often succeed in making it appear to be easy, which is a credit to your artistry.  I believe this is an inspiring performance.  Congratulations on your masterful playing.

Yea he could actually play cziffra..so it's time to focus on emotions not technique
He plays with passion ;)

The strange thing is, at the time I thought it was a bit technically fallible (which it is in points). In the week before the performance I had focussed primarily on presentation of the piece rather than the technical aspects. I like some of the things I was able to do stylistically, but Cziffra's playing (obviously, he's Cziffra) still has a lot more range and power.

Appear being the operative word ;)
