Old Improv
on: September 21, 2009, 12:00:21 AM
I was looking around in my hard drive for recordings and it turned out I had a pretty old improv sitting around from 3-4 years ago. I really enjoyed this at the time so I figured maybe someone else might enjoy it too if I shared. It's kinda sloppy since I rarely improv'd and I've only had pretty basic music theory (also it's on the built-in laptop mic) but I like it :x

Rather short (wish it were a bit longer and more developed), but I like it for what it is. Do you have more?

I wish it were longer too! I stopped short because I was afraid I was going to "run out" of feelings and start sounding terrible haha.

That's the only improv I had that I wound up e-mailing so it stayed in my mail server after I had to format my computer so I don't have any more :(. I'll try to record more, maybe I'll wind up with something nice again.

I hope you can and do!  :)

I'd like to record more improvs but the fine equipment I used to record the improvs I've posted here was owned by my employer, and I no longer have access to ANY sort of recording device, audio or video. And I no longer have a giant grand piano and acoustically wonderful chapel  to record in, and I no longer have even a modicum of technique to employ for pianistic pursuits. Alas, my Yamaha studio beckons me, yet I am still reluctant to embrace it. :'(

Someday, soon, I hope we, my piano and me, can again merge for the better. ::)

Its A Nice short piece but yes its very undeveloped. Never be afrade of running out of feelings, music always moves on when you start, and something you think isnt very good or full of feelings may mean something to someone who hears it or can relate.

This was a good idea but needs developing and embelishing and im sure it would be a great piece

Do you use a digital piano at all, or aswell?? there is a very simple and affordable recording device that allows you to add reverb like you were in a chapel. Listen to my improvs, there recorded using a yamaha clavinova clp230 i think. I have a lexicon alpha, it just uses 2 jacks and a laptop or computer and it records music that sounds great. :)

No, never had a digital piano, and only played one on occasion back when they were fairly new. And for some reason, I rarely ever felt inspired to improvise unless I was sitting in front of a big, black concert grand (of which we had a few to choose from). That's when at least some of my inspiration spilled onto the keys, and a fully functioning sostenuto was great to experiment with (as in one of the improves I posted here a few months ago). But the recording device you mention sounds great if you've got a digital instrument.
