Is there anyone who has the sheet music for that???

Andhow - that was *** beautiful. I seriously enjoyed that. It was melodic and very well played and I'd love to know what piano you played it on.

Well bloody done.

Beautifully played, andhow! Very nice!!

I love this song very much (well, I guess I'm not alone with that...), though I think nowadays it works much better in the more abstract form of instrumental transcription than in its original form. Not many composers had the skill of writing music that would immediately perceived as "folk music" tunes that have been around forever, like Brahms did with this cradle song.

Personally, I think this Cortot transcription is nice, but borderline kitschy -- to many repetitions of the theme, and especially the arpeggios are a bit too much for my taste. Of course this is still a very tasteful transcription of this theme compared to some others, e.g. there is a free paraphrase on this theme by Schuett (or Schuette?), brrrr... My personal favorite is the short one by Reger, which simply keeps the gently rocking accompaniment of the original. But of course it's good to have (and be able to listen to) alternatives!!

thanx for the nice words!  i attached the sheet music.  I downloaded it from this website in the "sheet music requiests" folder.... somebody also put in lots of other transcriptions of this song, but i like this one the bst.  you can play it, and imagine you are cortot!

the piano is a steinway, its only a small grand but its a very good piano.  it is in someones private home and i sometimes practice there.

if anyone has an ipod i recommend getting belkin's tunetalk because its a good recording device, its not great obviously but it is good enough to record urself practicing and easy to play back.

Hi andhow,

This is the first time I've heard the Cortot arrangement of the Brahms "Lullaby".  Cortot tipped toward the excesses a couple of times, but overall it's a fine arrangement, and very well played by you.  Nice!

do you know i don't disagree with yoU!  It is not like the original at all. one more verse, and also all those arpeggios are just invented.  but i like to play this, and pretend i am cortot.  he was so free with the sonud, and you can get an idea of his pianism not only from listening to him play but from playing this.l  i dont know of many other things he transcribed, except a bach aria from somewhere.

yes, thjanks!  it is excess but it is fun to play. esp the last verse where he brings back the arpeggios, an occasion for magic. long live cortot!@

Beautiful legato and expert voicing.

It's a nice arrangement, that does add a lot, but doesn't go that far in my opinion.  In some ways, if a pianist is going to make a free arrangement of a piece, I actually prefer that they go much further, like a Godowsky or Horowitz version of something.  In this case, a few euphonious arpeggios are not exactly the height of fantasy.  But I can see that Cortot probably just intended this for himself, something soothing and beautiful to play.

Well done!
