Looking for a certain YouTube Video
on: September 27, 2009, 02:24:46 AM
I'm trying to find the video of a pianist I forget his name.  He's asian and obviously works out because he's friggin' ripped!  But it's a video of him playing the minute waltz, it's amazing.  There must be 2 pianos because he is playing alternate melodies during the 2nd A section.  Anyone know which vid or pianist i'm talking about?  Buff asian dude?

Well Berezovsky isn't Asian and I don't think he's ripped, but is this the same version?

Yep, that's the mighty Gen! You can do a youtube search for Ichiyanagi and see this muscular madman play "Piano Media" and one or 2 other highly rhythmic works. With all those muscles I wonder how he keeps his fingers trim enough to play so fast!

He has certainly got more chance of winning a piano competition than a bodybuilding one.

He does look like he's been focusing more on his piano technique than his arms; otherwise I no nothing about him...

That was the one!  Thanks quantum!  I know this post is old but I haven't logged on this site in a while and have still been searching that vid...been doing traveling and haven't been around.

EDIT:

By the way, his Minute Waltz has to be 2 pianos, no?  I've listened to it over and over again, and it seems impossible to play his figures with the right hand...you'll know which ones i'm talking about when you hear it.  Maybe there's a hidden pianist side-stage.  ;D

I don't know who's arrangement of the Minute Waltz Gen is playing (possibly his own), but I've certainly heard some amazing, seemingly impossible performances, arranged in such a way as to be akin to a master illusionists art. Take Sorabji's extravagant pastiche on the same work (and there are many other's). So I believe Gen is actually playing this, somehow, without overdubs or off-stage players, and it is amazing.

Does anyone have a clue what arrangement is being performed in this video?

That's exactly the video I'm talking about.  Notice at the end how 2 performers are bowing...

He got built like that from playing the piano so harsh and vulgar :) lol. Ignoring his overpowered playing, hes pretty polished up piano playing wize huh! He should take up Tai chi and learn to be soft and gentle like water.... yes
