I need some help
on: October 03, 2009, 10:40:34 AM
Hey I've been teaching myself this piece I found off youtube these past couple of months. I've come across a part in the sheet music that I can't read, and I wanted to let you guys look into it. First here's a link to the song and how it is supposed to be played.

PL&index=1

Attached are the sheets in .pdf form. Half way down on the 4th page where the ascending scales start is my problem. I don't understand how to play the scales. It would seem to me that since the left hand has a rest that makes both hands "line up", but if you listen to the recording, they are very rapid and asynchronous sounding. The notes of the two scales fall in between one another. Anybody have a way of explaining it to me? Is it that 8va-| that causes this jumbling?

Also, check out zohar's other pieces on his channel, they are all beautiful. He's why I'm playing piano again.

If you look at the midpoint of the scales you will see a small number 20 above the scale for the left hand and 15 above the right hand scale. They indicate the number of notes in each scale that have to be played within the allotted number of beats given within the measure .

In this case you would be playing 20 notes against 15 notes or in other words, 4 against 3, which is the same rhythm as Chopin's Fantasie-impromptu.

I hope that this helps.

Thanks a ton! Yea so for every 4 notes played on the left hand, I should have played 3 on the right - makes sense. Thanks thanks thanks!

Oh and this is really tough, playing it at 1/3rd speed for the time being :) I'll update you guys when I can play the whole song full speed. Time to practice my scales, thanks again man.
