My repretoire
on: October 10, 2009, 04:42:40 PM
Hi,
I'm Amit and I'm new here.
Now I am working on this repertoire, for a recital:

-CPE Bach: Sonata in C minor, wq.65/31
-Haydn: Sonata in B minor, Hob. 32
-Haydn: Andante with variations in F minor
-Chopin: Fantasy in F minor, op. 49
-Chopin: Mazurka in A minor, op. 59/1
-Medtner: 2 Fairytales, op. 20
-Mendelssohn: Rondo Cpariccioso

Maybe i'll play also a composition by me.
Some people told me I should take a late Haydn sonata instead of 32, but I think they sound really bad on a modern piano. Thats why I take the B minor.

What do you think?

On the program itself, it is a little heavy on minor key pieces. Here would be a better order which to play it:

-CPE Bach: Sonata in C minor, wq.65/31
-Haydn: Sonata in B minor, Hob. 32
-Haydn: Andante with variations in F minor
-Mendelssohn: Rondo Cpariccioso
-Medtner: 2 Fairytales, op. 20
-Chopin: Mazurka in A minor, op. 59/1
-Chopin: Fantasy in F minor, op. 49

The B minor sonata is okay by the way.

Oh, I didn't mean to play it in the order it was listed..

The Haydn is really great but some think its too easy/standard.

It is not that easy, why would you play Haydn for difficulty anyway? and it is not overplayed. Don't worry about it.

dear amit:
welcome! your list is interesting, and weissenberg's order seems to work nicely (at least, i was listening here and it's cool).

about haydn's sonata, or any sonata, or any piece, btw: how difficult it is or not is irrelevant. it only matters when you have an audition or the like. when playing recitals, the main concern is music, real music. a virtuose-wannabe recital (full of difficult pieces that are poorly rendered and which result means nothing actually) is a sting in the back.

best!
