Learning minimalistic pieces.
on: October 12, 2009, 08:27:09 AM
Greetings.

I have recently registered on this website in search for knowledge concerning the piano, especially minimalism and jazz.

I'm an 18 year old student from Denmark, I have never had any piano lessons, even though I own a piano. I rarely play since my skills are very limited, it's usually just a couple of chords played with a melody or something like that. Nothing special.

Anyway, I've heard Harold Budd, Brian Eno, Daniel Lentz, John Cage, Arvo Pärt, etc. for a long time and it has inspired me to start learning the piano. I know a little bit so I wanted to hear if anyone could recommend me some pieces that I could try to play, that would be nice!

Thanks.

Hi

Google American musicians Liz Story, David Lanz, George Winston and Phillip Aaberg for a start.  I cannot recommend them enough if your looking for minimalist/jazz type pieces.  They are usually found in your local music store under the category 'new age' which I personally cannot stand and doesn't really do justice to these composers works who blend the ancient and modern. Works range from easy to difficult.  Search at Amazon under 'new age' for sheet music also + some online sites for free music.
