Remington 5'-9" Baby grand
on: October 12, 2009, 01:18:55 PM
I am a non-playing parent trying to upgrade my 16 daughters piano, currently playing a Yamaha U-3 upright.  Looked at Kaiwa and Remington "grands" this weekend.  Who makes Remington now?  We had an old Star/Remington years ago, that although neglected, seemed like a piece of junk.  I am a guitar player and I think I have a decent ear.  The Remington 5'-9" seemed the best option in the under $20,000 (list) price range that we saw.  Lots of nice Steinways, all very expensive.  Any advise would be appreciated.

Remingtons are made by Samick, who manufactures a number of different lines of pianos such as Sohmer, Knabe, Kohler & Campbell and Pramberger.

They are currently phasing out the Remington label and there are some good deals out there on them. That is, if what you are looking for is an entry-level piano at decent quality (not great) and a low price.

Steve-

Thanks for the info.  We didn't jump on the Remington as it seems way out of the main stream.  I am likely to sell this piano in the next ten years, so I want something with resale value.  I'm not fool enough to think piano's appreciate, but I know from the guitar world, that a desirable and reputable instrument today is always a desirable instrument in the future.
