Question on quality of Youtube video downloaders
on: October 17, 2009, 11:59:09 PM
Are they lowering the quality of the video?  I've got one that looks better on Youtube than what I've downloaded.

Is there any way to tell for sure?  I see you can right click on Youtube and see the kps or something like that.  I don't see it on a flash file though.

I'm thinking the site that downloaded the video for me automatically set the quality, and that quality is lower than what's on Youtube.

OF COURSE... YouTube won't let you download their high quality stuff, and technically you're not supposed to be able to download off YouTube anyway (but can thanks to plugins etc...)

Don't know how to get past it... I really don't.

Might have something to do with generational loss.  Like when you photocopy a photocopy you loose detail.  Or make an mp3 of an mp3, or a JPEG of a JPEG.

My guess is that the high quality version exists on their servers and is compressed as people watch it in order to generate faster download speeds.

Made a Liszt. Need new Handel's for Soler panel & Alkan foil. Will Faure Stein on the way to pick up Mendels' sohn. Josquin get Wolfgangs Schu with Clara. Gone Chopin, I'll be Bach
