Mosolov
on: October 18, 2009, 11:24:46 PM
I recently fell in love with this composer but can't find sheet music of his works anywhere. Does anyone have some? Or could anyone lead my to a site I can buy it?

I'm specially interested in his his Piano Sonatas 2 and 5 and the Two Dances, but anything would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks a lot in advance.

He passed away in 1973, so his works are still under copyright.

I respect this site's behavior vis-a-vis copyright laws, but if people weren't sharing Mosolov's works on other places on the internet, there would be no easy way to access those works. The large majority of his pieces, including his concertos and all of his piano works, are not available on sites like sheetmusicplus.com.

I agree with you, but I don't make the rules. Copyright material gets removed.

Maybe in this case there is an exception? Mosolov's music hasn't been in print for many, many years, I would suspect, so there would be no publishers to piss off, in this case.

In the case of Mosolov, it would be prudent to hold off, since those piss-rotten fiends at Universal Edition still claim sovereignty over the following works, none of which seem to be actually "on sale" anywhere.

Konzert, op. 14, for piano and orchestra
2 Nocturnes, op. 15, for piano
4. Sonate, op. 11, for piano

If UE have those pieces, they'll be able to sell you a copy - almost certainly an authorised photocopy, but a copy of some sort. Just get in touch and ask.

I have no interest in patronizing companies that are not willing to actively promote the music they own. I similarly won't give Leduc and Huegel money, since they've allowed countless works from the past century to go deep into obscurity. I've dealt with far too many situations where the actual availability of scores is miles behind a publisher's catalogue listings.

I'll stick with the libraries for now.
