Sorry, we all still hate "piano pop", as per your thread in the Audition Room.

Also, this goes in the Audition Room.

Sorry, but I believe this is actually Post-Modern.  Belongs next to the works of Rihm, Lachenmann and Kagel, assuredly.
If this work is so threatening, it is not because it's simply strange, but competent, rigorously argued and carrying conviction.

Piano pop isn't classical.  Also, this is a horrible piece of music.

Yes, this video of this "piece" is rather tragic.
Yet the performer came here (presumably) to find objective criticisms of his technique (whether performance or compositional, I'm not sure).

I must go back and read the "Charter" of PianoStreet and re-discover the ways PS finds reason to exclude newbies. At least this person did his best, despite the reception. I hope some better equipped pianistic improvisers/composers aren't intimidated by the reception this "Newbie" got! There MUST be more talented composer/pianists out there, and short-scripting anyone who comes along doesn't help the search.

Am I wrong?  :o

If you think the music is dirt, and so far below you that all you can say is "it's horrible", then move on. I posted this video so that it could be enjoyed, and if you don't enjoy it, I have no problem with that. Furthermore, if you aren't a piano god, and if my music is not so far below you that you need to sneer at it, then I would love constructive criticism in any area, and I am happy to take it. Most people who enjoy music do not enjoy it with the condition that it is true to classical conventions. Most people enjoy music for the sheer pleasure of sound, and that's all I've attempted to do here.
Thank you to those rational people who support fellow musicians.

If you're truly convinced of your music, I don't think a few snide remarks (me, included, and I'm sorry about that) are going to stop you from pursuing your goals.  I think your talents could direct you towards film scores and the like.  In fact, there's something "Comptonesque" about the music.  I personally find it too repetitive and dull.  But I can imagine it as background to some visual sequence, perhaps.  I bet you, in later years, you're going tol find these first steps in composition naive and endearing, as well!

I still stand by my statement that this isn't a good piece of music. It shows a great deal of popular music influence, which isn't a bad thing, but it also lacks coherence. There is no form to the sequence of ideas, and that is ultimately what makes a piece likable to many people, including in pop music. My advice is to get some lessons in theory and composition and work with your ideas, and always search for new ideas. That is, if this is what you really like doing. Without any sort of compositional discipline, your pieces will just be dull and repetitive. This isn't a personal attack or anything, so don't take it as such. Just take it as a friendly word of advice.

I actually quite enjoy classical music. It's what is on my radio all the time. I just don't think it should be requisite for a piano composition. There are many other domains of music that can be just as enjoyable.
