Thumb injury...
on: November 08, 2009, 08:48:23 PM
I've been playing the piano for more than 10 years (a bit of an on/off situation though). During the last months, after playing for a couple of minutes, the right thumb and area surrounding it (indicated in the pics - not my hands :)) starts to tire and feel uncomfortable. If I keep up, pain sets it and a feeling that sth. really bad will happen...
I stop of course and can resume playing after a few hours, but a feel of weight and weakness always stays there. I try to play relaxed, avoiding possibly dangerous movements (ie. excessive thumb-under), even stopped playing for ~20 days, but nothing.
As you can imagine, it is very frustrating and I'd really appreciate any feedback...
Thanks for reading this.

I really feel there is nothing more dangerous than an online diagnosis.

I would be inclined to see a specialist and the sooner the better, as whatever problem you have, it does not appear it will go away by itself.

Good luck.

I agree with thalberg. If there is something wrong, go see a specialist and learn what the problem is.

Thanks for replying, I guess it's never easy to admit there is a real problem that can interfere with piano playing. Time to see the doctor... and it's not an easy task to find someone specialized/knowledgeable in these matters.

Throwing away a misprint (or a series thereof) is always a potentially (if not actually) dangerous action...

I can relate anything to a psychological disorder now that i read a psychology textbook.
