Contemporary piece
on: November 16, 2009, 07:39:39 PM
I have been a die hard fan of "Romantic Era" and "impressionlism", that goes I love playing Chopin and Debussy.  I have worked several Chopins' Noturn and is currently working on Ballad#1 in G minor.  I would like to work on some contemporary pieces such as Prokofiv, but I am not fimilar with any contemporary composers.  I found contemporary pieces "noisy" Can anyone suggest a beuatiful piece for me? Help!

Prokofiev - 'Visions Fugitives'
Gershwin - '3 Preludes'
Copland - 'The Cat and the Mouse'
Messiaen - '20 Regards sur l'Enfant Jesus'
Ginastera - 'Danzas Argentinas'

ummm how early/late do you mean by Contemporary; I just listed some more 20th century stuff, but a bit later than Impressionism.

if you search for 'contemporary repertoire', 'beautiful contemporary works', 'contemporary composers' in the search function, etc, etc, you'll probably find loads of stuff on this.  Good luck!

Poems of Ecstasy – Scriabin’s Complete Piano Works Now on Piano Street

The great early 20th-century composer Alexander Scriabin left us 74 published opuses, and several unpublished manuscripts, mainly from his teenage years – when he would never go to bed without first putting a copy of Chopin’s music under his pillow. All of these scores (220 pieces in total) can now be found on Piano Street’s Scriabin page. Read more
