As apparently was Great Marlborough Street, London last Saturday, evidently, where you could have listened to the same pianist giving a progreamme of all ten of that composer's piano sonatas.

Perhaps someone will have to arrange for Jonathan to perform that composer's work in Gravesend, assuming that there is a suitable instrument and venur there...

I did not know of this and might well have attended.

If Mr Powell wishes to play in Gravesend, he is more than welcome to visit my place as I am looking for a partner for some four hand Pixis.

Perhaps a joint concert??

Sorabji aint really my kind of thing so i'll pass for all but the earplugs, but i definately would have liked to hear the medtner dithyramb by Powell, love that piece.

So i'll leave you and your toothbrush alone in Amsterdam. Which reminds me, i visited the Muziekbeurs the other week again and the owner mentioned a few 'lunatic' foreigners (not his words, my interpretation of them) going wild over romantic scores. Reminded me of u.  ;)

other romantic/late romantic concerto tips are welcome of course!

Hi Hans,

Sorry to read you missed that one, you've really missed something special there!
I don't know about any upcoming concerts of Jonathan specific (in The Netherlands) and/or simillar repertoire at De Toonzaal, but the brochure for the coming season is imminent (but won't contain Jonathan this season, sadly...), so check the Toonzaal Website if it's a place that is within visiting range for you (but perhaps you're already familiar with the place as a visitor. If so, chances are you have seen me there)!

Hmm, I would not interpret Sorabji (OSII) as "romantic", so I don't know if that piece would fit that bill. But people (planning) going to that Sorabji concert (all seven-and-three-quarters hours of it!) are surely gaga, I've got my tocket secured!
Thal is probably guest of honour (if not groupie), and would fit the 'lunatic' foreigners bill, but since he's English he probably can't help himself as such.... ;D

All best,

Well, I am pretty sure I know who they were.

I was not able to go myself, but a couple of friends of mine went on a raid and very kindly sent me some goodies.

Best shop in the World.

Hi Gep,

I have not yet visited the toonzaal unfortunately, i'm having enough trouble combining a visit to the concertgebouw now and then with my regular visits to clubs and bars ;). But i definately would make the time for special concerts like the one this topic started over. i'll try to get a hold of the brochure of next season, since it is not yet on the website. So i havent seen you yet in the Toonzaal, but if i'm going there for a concert, i'll check with u beforehand.

I was aware of the fact that the sorabji is not quite romantic, but i must admit i have not even heard 5% of his compositions so i can be wrong. Those 5% were however enough to move my interest to other composers.

You ever visited the muziekbeurs Gep? It's like a candy-shop, just ask Thal and his buddies  ;D

Regards,
Hans

I haven't, but judging on Thal's and your description I should keep well away from it (or go without a wallet!) ;)
