Saint-Saens No. 5 2nd mvt
on: November 20, 2009, 11:38:07 PM
Hi all,

I am working on the Saint-Saens 5th concerto, and in the second movement there is this section where in the RH there are high C# octave eighths with a grace note d-sharp on every one (you know, the "Christmas bells"?); the LH is playing a melody in the middle register.  I have small hands and this is extremely difficult for me (my span is an octave). I'm trying to find a way to do this, and I was wondering if anyone had suggestions on this.  Eg., grace note on every other without the lower c-sharp? Or no octave at all and grace note on every one?

thoughts are appreciated.

Is it the Poco più mosso part?
At what tempo are you playing this now?
(5)1-4 is the obvious fingering.—
The (5) being the grace note on D-sharp.
Have you already tried those fingers though?
I think that (5)1-5 should work,
at a very leisurely tempo.
Some pedal might be needed to make it "smooth".
