Chopin the Polish
on: July 02, 2004, 02:44:25 AM
I haven't yet discovered Chopin in terms of music, I have always found it to sound somehow superficial, but I'm eager to fix this now.

This year I might move to Poland, and thought it would be expedient to get into Chopin's music.

Any recommendations that would especially well serve this purpose of getting to know his cultural surroundings and colours? Something that would inspire me to find out more of his compositions?

Are you looking for places to visit?

Check out Zelazowa Wola, in Warszawa. Chopin's house and piano are there. I've yet to go, but apparently it's really cool. There's also a museum there somewhere, not sure if it's in Warszawa itself though.

Thanks, names of places to visit are welcome too. Once I'm there I might as well take everything out of it.

Here's a pic

Yes, I would suggest visiting the small town stores and pubs of Zelazowa wola.  His grave site is there as well.  Try picking a time when there is going to be some kind of Chopin-related concert.  Bring us back some pics as well!
A modern house without a flush toilet... uncanny.

The pic isn't showing :)

Zelazowa Wola was Chopin's birth town is that right? Also, give me names of pieces! I am really unfamiliar with Chopin's music and as I want to get into the culture, Chopin would help. Also I don't know how long I'm going to stay there but its not just a visit, I'm going to study in Kraków, though the whole thing is at the planning stage still.
