Mangas related to music.
on: December 23, 2009, 02:19:49 AM
I have read the manga Nodame Cantabile and Piano no Mori, and I think they are great because of the plot about to improve oneself as person, as musician, and to have fun in playing(well, I haven't finished yet Piano no Mori). Of course, I knew about them some years after I have practiced playing the piano.

I want to know if you know them (I am pretty sure that at least you heard or read the title Nodame Cantabile), and if you do, then what is your opinion about them.

Or maybe you know of other mangas related to music.

I'm reading Nodame Cantabile and I've watched Piano no mori as an anime, and I think they are both great. Nodame Cantabile is a very funny manga while at the same time it is not without depth. In my opinion it is the best manga related to music there is out there. Piano no mori is very sweet and quite original because of the piano in the forest.

Since I'm always hunting for mangas about classical music I've come across another one, called La corda d'oro. The main character is not a pianist but a violinist. Still it's a pretty good manga that I really enjoyed. The story takes place in a school where they hold a music contest. And there are lots of pretty boys.. ;)

Yea, it had a surprising amount of historical accuracy for the generally....fangirl-pleasing media. The author seems to have done his research.
However, the manga Chopin turned into a ridiculous, soppy, and stupidly grinning walking shojo cliche. It's true he was quite far from the "tormented man", and he did admire Liszt (“I hardly even know what my pen is scribbling, since at the moment Liszt is playing one of my etudes and distracting my attention from my respectable thoughts”), but I doubt he was a cute and innocent moe boy with no personality. Actually, he supposedly has a rather rough and melancholy temperament. I guess I'd classify him as a Tsundere, if I had to???

Oh, and he also had a crooked nose.

The bishie Liszt was kinda on point though.
