Level 1 and 2 recital pieces
on: January 03, 2010, 10:44:00 PM
I'm about to start preparing students for their annual piano recital.  What pieces or recital books do you recommend for students between primer and level 2B (I teach out of the Faber series.)  Any opinions are welcome.

Thanks!

Pumpking Boogie

Ride the Wind (I think it's called that; something with little E-F trills going up different registers)

New Orleans Celebration

The Bubble (lots of kids don't have patience to play everything from the book, but they usually like that one)

The Haunted Mouse

Also: as a possibility for the kids doing 2B - you might want to look at either the Christopher Norton's 'connections' level 1 (which parallels the RCM system) or simply through the Grade 1 repertoire/studies books.  These are a bit more challenging than the 2B (some of them aren't bad at all), but if it's something your student really likes, then they'll have the determination to play something from the uncharted territories of the conservatory :P

Most of the more 'character' type ones are really neat.  The New Orleans one is my favorite from the book just because of the left hand figures.  Such a cool sounding one, and it doesn't have any difficult parts (like the gumdrop factory and boxcar rumble, which seems to be two of the tougher ones in the book)
