on: January 06, 2010, 12:41:47 AM
I am in 7th grade right now, and I would like to audition in 1 year for a piano scholarship for a private high school. Ant one have any suggestions for audition pieces? I would like to "wow" the judges with a piece that isn't a commonly used . Thanks for any input.

What level are you if you know?  Or, simply, just list a few things that you've played, or are playing.

Is there a certain criteria, or is it one of those really open ended things like "musical scholarship to a deserving student".

Interested in discussing:

-Prokofiev Toccata
-Scriabin Sonata 2

I have been playing the piano since I was 6. I am 12 now, and have been playing mostly classical pieces. I can play Joplin, Guaraldi as well,  and I would classify myself as intermediate but always open to be challenged. My most recent accomplishment was Pachelbel's Cannon in D, an intermediate level. There are no audition requirements. They will ask me to sight read certain pieces, but I feel confident in my ability to do that.

If possible talk to students who did get in.  Ask what they played.  Also inquire on the details of the audition.  What other things will they ask you to do.  This will give you a better idea of level of playing that is acceptable to get in.

Don't just simply pick a piece to impress.  More important is that you like the music and you make it come alive.
Made a Liszt. Need new Handel's for Soler panel & Alkan foil. Will Faure Stein on the way to pick up Mendels' sohn. Josquin get Wolfgangs Schu with Clara. Gone Chopin, I'll be Bach
